AKtion Club Fosters Friendships and FUN!

AKtion Club Fosters Friendships and FUN!

In the past year, AKtion Club has expanded both it’s meeting locations and social activities.  Historically, the group has met at TECH’s Work Center twice per month and now split their monthly meetings between the Work Center and TECH's ALS/Art Studio.  As a result, they now have 6 new members participating in AKtion Club.  The group has also have added two socials per year, both of which have met at the ALS after hours, playing Bingo & most recently enjoying a Valentine’s Dance.  This fun activity spurred expanding friendships and was a great exercise for all (both socially & physically).

TECH clients were invited to join the AKtion Club Valentine’s Dance and one of our AKtion Club members who is also a person served by TECH and a Special Olympics participant, Joey Holmes, invited a Special Olympics teammate, Lucas Wondra, to join the social.  When Lucas arrived, he immediately recognized another familiar face, fellow SPOK teammate, Kelli Bringle. Also, joining our Valentine’s Dance were the Vinduska’s.  Vince, one of our TECH clients, was excited to join the dance and was accompanied by his mom, two sisters, and home care attendant.  It was great to observe the connection between Vince and his guests.

All in all, nearly 40 individuals attend the dance plus staff support.  We had so much fun and loved seeing the smiles on everyone's faces. We are looking forward to hosting this event again in 2020!  A special thanks to Donna Welch (Kiwanis member) for donating a delicious meal for all attendees.

About AKtion Club

Aktion Club is the only service club for adults with disabilities, with more than 12,000 members worldwide. Aktion Clubs draw members from various organizations that support individuals with disabilities, as well as other community programs.  Aktion clubs can also be established at churches, libraries, YMCAs, lodges or similar facilities. A Kiwanis club, composed of like-minded, service-oriented people from the community, serves as the club’s sponsor.
