Finding Purpose Through Service: Alex Lutz, TECH’s Employee of the Month
At TECH, our mission is not just a statement; it’s a commitment to enriching the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Behind every successful endeavor lies the dedication and passion of our staff members, and this month, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Alex Lutz, Staff Training Coordinator, our Employee of the Month.
Alex has been working at TECH since April of 2023, and the experience has profoundly changed how he viewed life. Before joining the organization, he’d always been driven by his personal happiness, but now, he’s realized that a life of service is far more fulfilling. Helping others has brought a sense of purpose he hasn’t felt before.
What drew Alex to TECH was the opportunity to do more than just provide resources. He wanted to be part of the process, standing alongside consumers as they worked toward fuller lives. This front-line involvement has gave him a deeper understanding of the impact they have on those they serve.
Of all the pillars TECH stood by, Self-Worth resonates the most with Alex. He believes that helping others realize their own value was not only his responsibility at work but also a personal mission. He has made it his goal to show people how important they are in the world.
As a new Staff Trainer, Alex found great reward in helping the staff discover their strengths. Watching them learn how to support the consumers in meaningful ways was gratifying, knowing they could change lives with their efforts.
One memory has stood out above the rest. There was a consumer who desperately needed housing, but every possible option seemed to fall through. Despite the numerous setbacks, neither Alex nor the consumer gave up. Together, they finally found a place that suited the consumer’s needs. It may seem like a small achievement to some, but to Alex and the consumer, it was monumental. That moment solidified Alex’s belief in persistence and compassion.
Outside of work, Alex’s passions come alive in music, especially drumming. Whether at rock and metal concerts or jamming with friends, it is one of his favorite escapes. He also loves reading history and horror stories, as well as spending time at the lake with his family and friends. In everything he did, Alex is guided by one quote: “We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” These words from St. Mother Teresa shaped how he lives, both at TECH and beyond.
