What do you love about working at TECH?

The ability to impact others’ life so that they can have options and opportunities to be whoever they want to be.

What brought you to TECH?

Initially, I needed a job as I found a group of folks that I wanted to spend time with and be a part of.

What TECH pillar means the most to you, and why?

Connection. It has always been a driving force in both my personal and work life. I believe that we are walking this life because we are to be something or someone to another person.

What is most rewarding about the specific position and job you have?

The sense of accomplishment I get in solving a problem or creating a solution. As a kid, I didn’t want to be called upon as I didn’t think I could punch my way out of a wet paper bag, but with great mentors who have encouraged me along the way, I realized that my quirky thoughts are there for a reason, and they work well when trying to address barriers to another person’s life.

Do you have a special memory about working at TECH?

Are you kidding me? I have tons of them ~ I’ll be dead at least 45 minutes and still tell you I have one more. One that’s special, was when we were providing job coaching. Our job developer was able to sweet talk this owner into a job trial, which I think he agreed to just to say he tried. He put lots of limitations on the job which the people who worked for him didn’t understand and thankfully ignored. He went on vacation for a week, and when he came back I believe he thought he would test the person out and decide that he couldn’t do the job, and he would be able to go back and say he tried. I was the job coach and I had taught the person to drive the forklift, bail in an outdated bailer, move the 2500lb bail to a trailer and in his down time teach him to run a machine that was not complicated but dangerous. The owner would not let me coach the person during the test, but the client slammed dunked the test and got the job. His starting wages were more than I made, he had more benefits that any staff at TECH, (this was a manufacturing job) but I was so stoked that he was able to accomplish something that no one expected him to be able to do.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Being with friends, and family going places, watching movies, playing games or just laughing and talking about all sorts of stuff. In quiet moments, I like to read.
