TECH Annual Report

Making A Difference In The World

June 9, 2022

Candice Miranda joined the TECH family less than 9 months ago as a DSP (Direct Support Professional) but you would never know she is one of the newest staff at TECH’s Adult Life Skills program after watching her work with the people we serve.

Like many of our DSP’s, Candice’s story is no different – she came to TECH looking for a career change. “I spent the last 10 years or so working in professional kitchens and needed a change of pace. I have always had a passion for people with disabilities because of my brother and sister who both have cerebral palsy,” says Candice.

I love watching my clients work on and meet their goals that help them build their ideal life. My motivation is very simple – every time I see them smile makes me feel like I am making a difference in the world.

DSP’s work in a variety of settings at TECH, assisting clients with daily personal tasks, housekeeping, transportation, shopping, cooking, social activities and more.

“Our DSP’s have one of the most important jobs in the agency. Their work can be incredibly challenging but highly rewarding,” says Brenda Maxey, President/CEO of TECH. “We are lucky to have such dedicated staff at TECH.” And on those days that seem to present challenges, Candice says that staying lighthearted and goofy helps keep them fun.

Candice found herself quickly developing relationships with many of the people served by TECH and has become their biggest cheerleader! “I love that I’ve gotten to know the clients and am able to impact their lives in a positive manner,” says Candice. “I don’t know that I make as much of an impact on them but they
definitely make an impact on me!”
