Rooted in Purpose: Brenda Matula, TECH’s Employee of the Month
At TECH, our mission is not just a statement; it’s a commitment to enriching the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Behind every successful endeavor lies the dedication and passion of our staff members, and this month, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Brenda Matula, Administrative Assistant, our Employee of the Month.
When Brenda walked through the doors of TECH, Inc. for the very first time in May of 2001, she was a young mother of two—just looking for a steady job to help support her family. What she didn’t expect to find was a calling.
In those early days, the agency was unfamiliar. But as time passed, faces became friends, coworkers became teammates, and the work became something more—something meaningful. With every consumer she supported, every small victory she witnessed, and every connection she built, her role transformed. What started as a job turned into a purpose, filled with moments of growth, fulfillment, and the joy of making a difference.
Of all the TECH pillars, Connection resonates the most with her. It’s at the heart of everything she does—whether she’s building relationships with outside agencies, collaborating across departments, or offering a warm smile to guests who walk into the Training Center. She knows that real progress starts with real connection—and she takes pride in being the bridge that brings people and resources together.
She’s worn many hats over the years. One of the most rewarding parts of her role is being the one to say, “Yes, you qualify!”—helping someone take a major step toward independence. She also cherishes the moments when she can encourage someone who’s uncertain, reminding them that while change can be scary, it can also open doors to new growth.
One memory stood out among the many: a scavenger hunt, years ago, designed to build teamwork. Clues hidden all over town, laughter echoing from teammates navigating the unfamiliar, and the celebration afterward with a BBQ that brought everyone closer. It wasn’t just about winning; it was about connection—and that experience captured everything she loves about TECH.
Now, decades later, her love for adventure remains. Whether she’s greeting a guest, supporting a consumer, or exploring a new place with her family—she brings the same energy and heart. Her motto says it all:
“Just be yourself and have faith—if it’s meant to be, it will be.”
And for her, TECH was always meant to be.
